Amethyst:
Why I’m Still Obsessed With it
Okay. Let’s talk about purple.
Not just any purple. That dreamy, glowy, slightly dramatic purple that makes you feel like you own a velvet robe even if you absolutely do not. Yes. I’m talking about amethyst.
I’ve worked with a lot of stones over the years, but amethyst? She’s the moment. She’s calm and confident and a little mysterious — like she journals but won’t tell you what she wrote.
So What Actually Is Amethyst?
Amethyst is a variety of quartz (yes, technically very common), but the purple comes from trace amounts of iron doing their little chemistry magic deep in the earth. It’s basically science… but make it fashion.
It’s strong too. It ranks a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, which means it can survive your everyday chaos — tossing it in your bag, stacking it with ten other rings, dramatically gesturing while telling a story.
She’s durable. We love that.
The Drama Has History
The name comes from the Greek word amethystos, which means “not intoxicated.” Ancient Greeks believed it could keep you from getting drunk.
Is that true? Probably not.
Do I respect the branding? Absolutely.
For centuries, amethyst symbolized:
- Protection
- Clarity
- Royal energy
- Creative intuition
- Calm power
Royalty wore it. Warriors carried it. Spiritual leaders loved it. And now? It’s on your favorite stackable ring.
Why I Use It in My Designs
Amethyst has this perfect balance of softness and strength. It’s not loud. It’s not aggressive. But it definitely has presence.
It blends blue (calm, steady, thoughtful) with red (passion, fire, drama). Which means when you wear it, you’re basically communicating:
- I’m creative.
- I’m grounded.
- I’m a little mystical.
- And yes, I have taste.
Deep violet feels luxurious and powerful. Lighter lavender feels playful and airy. Both feel intentional.
From Earth to Earrings
The most beautiful amethyst comes from places like Brazil and Uruguay, where massive geodes form over millions of years. Imagine the patience. The pressure. The time.
Honestly? That’s how good design works too.
You experiment. You refine. You layer. And eventually something sparkly and strong emerges.
The Emotional Vibe
Purple has always been associated with imagination and individuality. It stands out without screaming for attention.
When my clients choose amethyst, it usually means they want something that feels:
- Creative but elegant
- Spiritual but modern
- Soft but powerful
- Subtle but unforgettable
That balance is everything.
Why I’ll Never Get Over It
Amethyst used to be as rare as diamonds before huge deposits were discovered. It became more accessible — but it never lost its mystique.
And I love that.
Because something doesn’t have to be rare to be special. It just has to be worn with intention.
At Glitter Queen Creative, I design pieces that feel like little reminders of who you already are — bold, layered, a little dramatic, and completely original.
Amethyst just happens to embody all of that in one perfect shade of purple.
And honestly? I’m still not over it.
